Cordillera Darwin - Chilean Tierra del Fuego. 12th February to 6th March 2011
The
trip will commence and finish in Ushuaia - the
most southerly city in the world. From there the
mountains are approached by the chartered yacht -
Iorana. This can accommodate six people plus the
captain - Marcel de Letter - an amiable Belgian
guy who lives on-board the boat based in Ushuaia.
From Ushguaia the Beagle Channel is crossed to
Puerto Williams, the entry point into Chile. From
this town it's west along the channel to a
beautiful anchorage at Caleta Ola. From here
Monte Frances (2200m) and Monte Bove (2400m) can
be accessed. These peaks have easy routes up them
and have been ascended only 8 and 3 times
respectively since their first ascents by Eric Costs:
