Our honorary member Col Balwant Sandhu died on 10th December. He had been in a coma for 10 days in the Research and Referral Army Hospital in New Delha hospital, following being hit by a speeding car near to the Indian Mountaineering Federation.
Balwant wasa past President of the Himalayan Club.
He and Chris Bonington co-led the Changabang ‘74 1st ascent with Doug, Haston, Boysen et al. He later ran the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering. When it is known if there is to be a memorial service members will be informed. |
